An orchard oasis nestled in the hills above the Columbia River
Steven and Lisa Scardina founded The Dalles Orchard House in 2020 as a small-batch apricot orchard, honoring the history of the land and working to fulfill the original intent of the owner. The orchard land can be traced back to the Homestead Act of 1822. The original parcel was part of a claim made in 1893 by Albert Jordan. The land has changed hands only three times before the Scardina family established their own homestead along the Oregon Trail, making connections in the community and harvesting Wenatchee Moorpark apricots.
We always dreamed of having a small orchard in the Columbia Gorge, fueled by inspiration gathered driving along the mighty Columbia River back and forth from Portland to Walla Walla when our three boys were young. And then, in June of 2020, the dream became a reality when we found ourselves standing on 2-acres with a big sky Eastern view of the river, a charming mid-century modern house, and 27 fruit trees.
